The different modes of action of ozone on a living organism are now well understood. The production of peroxides is responsible for the remarkable bactericidal and fungicidal effects of ozone. Normal cells are protected from the effects of ozone by enzymes in the cell wall – glutathione peroxidase, catalase and superoxide dismutase.
